The computer Bus is fitted with the latest and most advanced ICT resources for effective and up to date training and services.


The Bus has the following amenities;

Education Courseware
Internet connectivity
Printer and scanner
Solar Panels that power the computers
ICT trainers and Facilitators





PROJECT AREAS

Craft Silicon Foundation has projects in Kenya, Uganda, India and Ethiopia.


The computer buses visit slums in Nairobi, Kampala, Ahmedabad and Addis Ababa where Women, youth and children are able to access to internet and Digital Literacy program for free.


Free Computer Education (Digital Literacy Program) is meant to bridge the wide divisions between those who have real access to Information and Communications Technology and those who don't.


Mobilization and recruitment are achieved through the partnership with local based youth groups, NGO’s, religious Organizations, Community Leaders and the Provincial Administration.






TARGET GROUPS - WOMEN, YOUTH AND CHILDREN

Women represent nearly two-thirds of the illiterate population worldwide, with almost 40 per cent of offline women citing unfamiliarity with technology as a reason for not accessing the Internet.


The project aims at promoting universal Digital literacy and hence more focus in women and children in the poor neighborhood and enable them use computer knowledge and skills to seize opportunities that will make them self-reliant.


The program also aims at promoting development in these areas, an intervention that helps keep Women and children off Drugs, early marriages, prostitution, crime and other social Vices.


To qualify for the programme, one must fall within the required age bracket. Second, poor students who cannot afford fee for further education are also admitted. They disregard education level. Anyone who completed secondary, primary or below and has interest is admitted.





PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Computer Literacy Program has transformed the livelihoods of close to 36300 youths who have successfully secured employment after completing the program.


Over 4460 students have successfully advanced their ICT knowledge at craft silicon foundation Advanced training center


Over 2300 students currently enrolled in the program.


The program is operational in Four Countries with plans of expanding across Africa and beyond.

Madam Priya won Top 40 under 40 women in business awards
Craft Silicon Foundation CEO Mrs. Priya Budhabhatti has won 2013 AABLA East Africa in Business woman of the year award.
Madam Priya has received an award for Digital Inclusion Champion during the National Diversity and Inclusion Awards and Recognition event in Nairobi City held on 22/03/2024.

Regina Nduku

Regina Nduku, from Kibera, is one of the beneficiaries of the programme. After sitting her KCSE exams at Kitie Secondary, Machakos in 2008, she could not further her education due to lack of school fees.


"The programme is Godsent and I can clearly see a bright future for me and anyone undergoing the training" she says.


"I heard about the program through a friend at my church and I decided to apply. I dedicated my time to the training and worked hard to pass exams. The teachers were very helpful and we got motivated by Madam Priya – the CEO."


Regina started a small cyber café in Kibera where she gives computer services. She has been able to support herself and her family and even employed two people.




Morgan Mayonga

Another beneficiary, Morgan Mayonga, who completed Jamuhuri High in 2008, says he knows the knowledge he has acquired will help him in future.


"I had lost hope in life as I didn't have resources to advance my education or acquire any skill."


"My church elder had mentioned how Craft Silicon Foundation is giving free digital training to youth and women. So, I decided to approach the bus and enquire. I was put in the waiting list as the classes were already full. After 2 months I received a call and got enrolled in the program. I graduated with a distinction 13 weeks later and I am currently employed as a cashier in a local supermarket. I am currently taking advance course at Craft Silicon Foundation Knowledge center."
